Neighbours
Gender- Gender is shown in a different way in Neighbours. For example Paul is the shown to be the stereotypical bad guy, showing men in a negative way. He is also the mayor, giving the impressive that he has more power then anyone else. Also getting he impression that he is obsessed with power being the owner of the hotel and bar and being the mayor. thinking that he is better then anyone. You can get this impression when they show that he is in the penthouse. With Paul being in power it gives you an impression that stereotypical men should have more power then women. Also he always wearing a shirt and blazer, showing that he is working class and very wealth being able to but the suits.
A representation for a women is Susan, as she is the head teacher of the high school. this is a positive representation of her. This gives you an impression that she has power within the school, but with Paul as the mayor this give you the impression that he has power over her.
Another representation on men is when Dannii starts talking about her ex boyfriend, and how he was abusive to her, this is a negative representation of men. having close up of Dannii's face showing that she is scary, gives you an idea of how bad the abuse was. This is also shown with the camera's that she has put up and that are only on during working hours, showing that she does't want him to find her and that she is so scared to work, or go out anywhere. Also with her being really jumpy when clients come in, showing just how scared she is that he is going to find her.
Ethnicity- there isn't any ethnicity is neighbours, this is because all of the characters are white. This shows no diversity within the show. This now shows a negative representation of Neighbours.
Age- Neighbours is target to different ages group, having the different characters. the main age group that they are targeting is 40-60. This would be the main target audience, as they will be able to connect with the story lines and they may have been to the same or similar situation. They will also attract to different age groups, as they have different characters who are different ages. They have a positive representations of 16 to 18 within the shows, they are represented as being mature adults.
Issues- Neighbours are both positive and negative representation, this is because it shows issues that occurring is everyday live. This could help someone in that issues. These are things such as economic issues, e.g - Georgia thinking that Kyle is unable to support her and they baby, so she is going to move back to her home town with her parents and she thinks they can give her the support she needs.
